Halloween is just around the corner and the Wood River Valley knows how to celebrate the spooky season! There are a plethora of Halloween inspired events for every age.
The festivities start tonight from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. (Thursday, Oct. 24) with Blazing Pumpkins at Swiftsure Ranch. This family-friendly event encourages costumes and they will have a Haunted Hay Maze, games, music by Boise-based band Red Light Challenge and food and drinks. The cost is $5 per person, with kids five years and under free. Swiftsure Ranch is located at 114 Calypso Lane in Bellevue.

Friday, Oct. 25
Floating Witch’s Head: This Boise-based band will entertain the crowd (costumes encouraged) for a night of dancing and more. At the heart of Floating Witch’s Head is the songwriting of Travis Ward—also the frontman of the nearly 20-years active Hillfolk Noir. While Hillfolk Noir is very much a folk oriented affair, Floating Witch’s Head is a sweaty, gritty, tube-driven, garage-y milieu.

Saturday, Oct. 26
Halloween Fall Fest at Sun Valley Resort: Come spend a beautiful fall afternoon with the family at the Halloween Fall Festival in the Sun Valley Village! Festivities include live music, Ice skating, wagon rides, a movie screening (at 3 p.m.) and so much more! Noon to 3 p.m., sunvalley.com.
Sunday, Oct. 27
Halloween on Ice: The annual Halloween-themed ice skating event at Campion Ice House in Hailey. Costumes are encouraged and organizers ask participants to bring a canned good to be donated to the Hunger Coalition. 1:15-2:30 p.m., haileyice.org.
“Hereditary” film screening: When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited. $10-$12, 8 p.m. at the Liberty Theater, 110 N. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” film screening: Probably the oddest, most off-the-wall cult film ever made, this kinky rock’n’roll science fiction horror satire is everybody’s favourite midnight show. A young couple stumbles into a castle inhabited by weirdos from the planet Transylvania including Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry) a transvestite Frankenstein in rhinestone heels. “Hocus Pocus” film screening: After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal., $10-$12, 6:30 p.m. at the Liberty Theater, 110 N. “Casper” film screening: Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson) is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When specialist James Harvey (Bill Pullman) arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci). Thursday, Oct. 31
Trunk or Treat: Enjoy candy, costumes, crafts, food and a bounce house on the bike path behind the Bellevue Public Library. 3-5 p.m.
Hailey Halloween Hoopla: Kids and families in costumes will roam Main Street in Hailey as participating businesses give out candy. Look for orange and black balloons. The Kiwanis of Wood River Valley are hosting a costume contest at Hailey Town Square, 3:30-5:30 p.m., valleychamber.org.
Trick or Treat on Main Street: Ghouls and goblins can join in this fun event with participating Ketchum businesses passing out candy, 4-7 p.m., whiskeysonmain.com.
Halloween Happy Hour: Come for the tricks and stay for the treats of Bearskin Rug, DJ Alex and DJ Gustavo, 5-9 p.m., theargyros.org.
